Jamshedpur, July 14: Bhurkadih villagers performed Jaher Puja at the Jaher Sthan praying for rains and for the peace and prosperity of the village. Bhurkadih is under Jadugoda police station.
The villagers sacrificed 100 cockbirds and six goats as a ritual to appease the gods for rains. Village chief Bhudeb Bhakat informed, �The villagers have followed an age old tradition for rain and peace and prosperity in every village home. There is a provision for sacrifice of cockbirds is there to appease the village god. The villagers have performed the sacrifice in the name of the head of each family.�
The prayers were conducted by the village priest Saroj Kumar. Among those who sacrificed cockbirds to ensure greenery in crop fields and rains were Bhavranjan Bhakat, Gunadhar Bhakat, Ghasiram Bhakat, Basant Bhakat, Manoranjan Bhakat, Sanju Laha, Kailash Bhakat, Haren Kashyap and Gadadhar Bhakat.
