Villagers protest against Bhushan Steel in Potka

Jamshedpur: Hundreds of villagers of Potka put up a demonstration against Bhushan Power and Steel Company before the local block office here on Wednesday. They included representatives of the Gram Sabha and members of various social organizations. A memorandum was handed over to the Circle Officer by the agitators who protested the issuance of SIA (Social Impact Assessment) notification by the land acquisition department of the state government under The Right to Fair Compensation and Transparency in Land Acquisition, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (Amendment) Act 2015 Rules.
The villagers demanded that the notification be withdrawn by the administration and the land acquired �illegally� from the �ryotdars� be returned to them.
Sources said the administration plans to start SIA process for 196.4917 acres of land in Khariasai, Roladih, Juri, Samarsai and Potka. The process is to be completed in four months.
Among those present during the agitation included Badal Sardar, Kumar Chandra Mardi, Madan Mohan, Harish Chandra Singh Bhumij, Sudarshan Bhumij, Nikhil Mandal and Bharat Sardar.
