Ranchi: In a resounding display of dominance, the Indian women’s hockey team maintained their unbeaten streak in the Jharkhand Women’s Asian Champions Trophy league as they defeated Korea 5-0. The match, held at Jaipal Singh Munda Astro Turf Stadium in Marang Gomke, saw India apply relentless pressure right from the start.
Sangeeta of Jharkhand made an impressive move in the 6th minute, breaching Korea’s defense and expertly assisting Salima Tete, who secured a crucial field goal. The teams entered the halftime break with India leading 1-0.
The second half showcased India’s relentless determination, as Navneet Kaur converted a penalty corner into a goal in the 36th minute. Just moments later, Salima Tete netted a brilliant goal with a perfect pass from Sangeeta Kumari. Vandana Kataria, marking her 301st international match, added to the tally with a field goal in the 49th minute.
India’s dominance was further underlined as they sealed the match with a final goal in the last minute, with Neha finding the back of the net in the 59th minute.
The victory solidifies India’s position in the tournament, setting the stage for a rematch against Korea on November 4 to secure a spot in the finals. In the other semi-final clash, China will face off against Japan. The Chief Guest for the day’s match was Jharkhand Governor CP Radhakrishnan, who introduced the players and commenced the game, followed by a photo session with the Asian Champions Trophy and the mascot, Juhi. The event was graced by the presence of notable hockey officials, including Padmashree Dilip Tirkey and Hockey India General Secretary Bholanath Singh.
