UCIL spends Rs 3.5 crore on CSR projects annually

Jadugora: Members of Uranium Corporation of India Limited (UCIL) Narwapahar Visthapit Evam Prabhavit Kalyan Samiti today said that the efforts put in by them in getting displacement victims jobs in the company had started bearing fruits in the last four months.

They said that nine displaced people had recently got employment in UCIL and as many were in the line to get employment very soon. They said the procedure to absorb nine more workers was on. They said they were trying to get jobs for two more displaced people within next one week.

Addressing scribes at Narwa Guesthouse on Sunday, the committee members praised the company for its contribution in the development of the area and its people. They said the company was way ahead in the development of the region under its Corporate Social Responsibility projects.

Around Rs 60 lakh is spent under CSR activities by the company in the local villages, they said. Annually, the company spends Rs 3.5 crore in and around the tribal villages surrounding its seven Uranium projects, committee members said.

The general secretary of the committee Gajia Hansda said that there were plans to start two minor irrigation projects in Hartopa and Rajdoha and hand over two water towers to villagers of Baghmara and Rajdoha. Water will be supplied to the villagers of Murga Ghuttu and Patharchakdi, he said.

It may be mentioned here that the committee started functioning some four months back.
