Two women killed, two injured in car-trailer collision in Chaibasa

Chaibasa, Feb 8: A speeding car collided with a trailer late on Wednesday night on the Saraikela-Chaibasa Main road near Pundihasa in Ghaghari village that resulted in the deaths of two women and injuries to two other male occupants including the driver. The deceased women were identified as 55-year-old Manorama Devi of Gandhi Tola, Chaibasa, and 20-year-old Sapna Gope from Nachrai Tola village under the Sadar police station. The injured included 28-year-old lawyer Prashant Gupta who was at the wheel of the car and his clerk, 23-year old Samir Banra, the husband of deceased Sapna Gope.

According to Samir Banra, they were returning from Ranchi to Chaibasa around 12 AM after attending a relative’s wedding party. Prashant Kumar Gupta, an advocate, was driving the car, with his mother seated beside him and Sameer and his wife seated at the back. Sameer further said that they were asleep when the accident occurred and were unaware of how it happened. Some witnesses claimed that the car collided with the trailer while overtaking, resulting in the impact on the driver’s side. However, others stated that an unidentified trailer collided head-on with the car before fleeing the scene.

After the incident, the injured called their relatives for help, and with the assistance of the police, all were rushed to the hospital for treatment. Both women were pronounced dead upon arrival. The injured men were treated for injuries sustained on head, face, lips, and hands.

The police have initiated an investigation into the incident, and Samir Banra mentioned that he worked as a clerk at the office of advocate Prashant Kumar Gupta in Chaibasa. He also mentioned that he married Sapna Gope in July 2023.
