Jamshedpur, June 3: In a daring incident, two individuals were apprehended by the local police while attempting to break into an HDFC Bank ATM in Adityapur near Jamshedpur.
A patrolling party nabbed two of the three criminals while the latter were trying to break into an ATM along the Adityapur-Kandra four-lane under Adityapur police station area in the wee hours on Saturday.
The ATM attempted at belongs to HDFC Bank and was housed at the Shivranjanjani residential complex.
According to police, while patrolling the four-lane, the police sensed doubt at the HDFC Bank ATM located in the Shivranjanjani residential complex. Soon after, the patrolling party rushed to the ATM where three criminals were busy dismantling it.
At the sight of the police, one of the criminals managed to escape, but two others were caught. Those arrested were identified as Ranjit Jha and Paramjeet Singh.
According to eyewitnesses, the two suspects were seen trying to force their way into the ATM using tools and equipment commonly used in such criminal activities. Their attempts to tamper with the ATM’s security systems were foiled due to the prompt response of the security guard and the subsequent arrival of law enforcement authorities.
Upon their arrest, the police found the suspects in possession of burglary tools and other incriminating materials. The authorities suspect that the duo may be involved in similar crimes in the area, and investigations are underway to determine their involvement in any previous ATM break-ins.
An official, stated, “We acted swiftly upon receiving the alert and were able to apprehend the suspects before they could carry out their illegal activities. We are now working to gather more evidence and establish their connection, if any, to other ATM burglaries in the region.”
Meanwhile, HDFC Bank officials have expressed gratitude to the security guard and the police for their prompt response, which prevented any damage or loss to the ATM or customer accounts. The bank has assured its customers that the incident will not affect their banking operations, and the ATM will be thoroughly checked for any potential vulnerabilities.
This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of strong security measures and public vigilance in combating such crimes. Authorities continue to advise citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly, ensuring the safety and security of the community.
