SIT Formed, POCSO Act Invoked
Jamshedpur: In a disturbing incident, two minor girls from the Golmuri area have reportedly been abducted under suspicious circumstances, prompting swift police action and the registration of a case under serious legal provisions, including the POCSO Act.
The incident occurred on the evening of June 23 when the two girls, aged 15 and 17, left their homes around 6 pm and did not return. After hours of anxious searching, the families approached the police on June 24, following which a case was lodged under IPC Sections 363 and 366A, along with relevant sections of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
According to police sources, initial investigations indicate that the girls were allegedly lured away by Sumit Mandal, a resident of Kolebira in the neighbouring Seraikela-Kharsawan district, along with two unidentified accomplices. Authorities believe the abduction may have been carried out under the false promise of marriage.
“Both girls are minors, and the manner in which they were taken raises concerns of possible trafficking or exploitation. We are treating this case with utmost urgency,” said a senior police official.
A special investigation team (SIT) has been constituted to trace the accused. Police are currently analysing call detail records and mobile tower locations to track the movement of the girls and the suspects.
Golmuri police official confirmed that the investigation is progressing on multiple fronts. “Given the sensitivity of the case, we are leaving no stone unturned. We are confident of locating the girls and bringing the accused to justice,” he said.
Preliminary findings suggest the act was premeditated and that the accused may have known the girls personally. The coordinated nature of their disappearance and lack of any immediate communication has led police to believe the plan was orchestrated in advance.
