Jamshedpur, Nov. 19: The annual short film festival of Jamshedpur, SHORTS, is now in its 12th year. Since 2008, when the festival stepped into the steel city for the first time, SHORTS has been working towards creating a platform for budding film makers especially from Jharkhand to showcase their creative works. Over the years the festival has screened the works of several budding film makers alongside the works by professional film makers from all over the country and also from abroad.
Every year the SHORTS Closet boasted of a bouquet of creatively crafted short films with strong social messages. Many of the films that were screened at SHORTS have travelled to important film festivals both nationally and internationally. SHORTS, being the first and the longest running short film festival in Jamshedpur, has become a favourite with the people and the media of the steel city who have rendered their continuous support towards the festival all these years.
A collaboration of Jamshedpurs Society for Promotion of Professional Excellence (SPPE) and Kolkatas Take 5 Communications, the biggest achievement of the festival is perhaps that of turning several young and budding film makers from Jamshedpur into full time professionals. Apart from independent film makers, quite a few Schools and Institutions from Jamshedpur and other parts of the country have, over the years, participated in SHORTS with their student films. All this has enriched the quality of film making in Jamshedpur thereby creating the perfect environment of healthy Cinema.
SHORTS 2019 has twenty one short films that would be screened over the span of two days. The films are in English, Hindi and Bengali languages….some are silent films. The films range from 4 min. to 30 min. in duration and are from Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata and Jamshedpur. There is an international entry as well, from U.S.A. The films are made by both budding and professional film makers. Of the twenty one films, seventeen are fiction and four are documentaries.
The two day festival on November 23 and 24 at the Centre for Excellence would be a treat for all eyes and the films have much food for thought. Like before, it has a touch of style and loads of soul.
