Two Central University of Jharkhand students killed in road accident

Ranchi, Feb 5: Two students of the Central University of Jharkhand (CUJ) lost their lives in a tragic road accident on Wednesday afternoon. The victims, Aishwarya, an MSc Geo Informatics student from Howrah and Devdas Mandal, a PhD scholar from Sundarbans, West Bengal, were travelling on a bike when a high-speed cargo vehicle hit them near Maltoti bridge in the Mandar police station area. The impact was severe, killing both students on the spot and leaving their bike completely mangled.

Following the accident, students of CUJ staged a protest and blocked the Ranchi-Daltonganj highway, demanding justice and stricter traffic regulations. University officials confirmed that the families of the deceased had been informed. “Aishwarya and Devdas were staying in a rented house near Mandar. Their sudden demise is a huge loss to the university,” an official stated.

Mandar police station in-charge Rahul Kumar assured action against those responsible. “An FIR is being registered and we are making efforts to locate the driver and the helper who fled after the incident,” he said.
