Tatanagar: SER to run Holi special trains to manage festival rush

Jamshedpur, Feb 5: To ensure smooth and hassle-free travel during the Holi festival, Indian Railways has planned to operate 1,410 special train trips across the country in 2026. The number of special services may be further increased depending on passenger demand during the peak festive period. These trains are aimed at accommodating the surge of travelers returning to their hometowns or visiting friends and relatives to celebrate the festival of colours.

As part of this initiative, South Eastern Railway (SER) has also announced plans to run Holi Special trains on several important routes to clear the extra rush of passengers. The proposed special services will connect key destinations across different regions of the country.

The routes identified by SER include Santragachi–MGR Chennai–Santragachi, Santragachi–Thiruvananthapuram–Santragachi, Santragachi–Charlapalli–Santragachi and Santragachi–Darbhanga–Santragachi. Other routes include Shalimar–Vadodara–Shalimar, Shalimar–Visakhapatnam–Shalimar, Tatanagar–Katihar–Tatanagar, Tatanagar–Buxar–Tatanagar, Ranchi–Gorakhpur–Ranchi, Ranchi–Ajmer–Ranchi and Ranchi–Jaynagar–Ranchi.

Railway authorities stated that these special trains will help reduce congestion and provide passengers with a comfortable and convenient travel experience during the festive season.
