Jamshedpur, Nov 12: Despite the police action in Jamshedpur, the illegal trade of buying and selling of brown sugar is rampant. Those who buy and sell brown sugar are being caught, but the police are not able to reach its main supplier. The police are yet to nab the real traders, due to which the drug trade continues.
On Thursday night, Sakchi police raided near Sakchi Ramlila ground and arrested two youths while buying and selling brown sugar. A total of 78 packs of brown sugar, Rs 4260 in cash, two mobile phones and scooty were recovered from them.
Both were engaged in selling intoxicants in the Sakchi police station area by keeping them in the scooty. The arrested includes Sonu Jaiswal alias Tata, resident of Bhalubasa of Sitaramdera police station area and Mohd Sahil of Baradwari of Sitaramdera.
CCR DSP Animesh Kumar Gupta said acting on a tip off that there are active buyers and sellers of brown sugar near Ramlila Maidan, a team was formed and raids were conducted. Two youths were arrested during the drive. The raiding team included Sakchi police station in-charge Rajesh Kumar Singh, including Parvez Alam, Abhinandan Kumar, constable Santosh Paswan and Tiger Mobile personnel.
Sonu Jaiswal alias Tata has already been to jail in a criminal case. Significantly, brown sugar is being bought and sold in Sakchi, Sitaramdera, Sonari, Kadma, Bistupur, Jugsalai, Parsudih, Burmines, Bagbera, Mango, Azadnagar, Telco areas of the city. Intoxicants are being supplied from Adityapur Muslim Basti and Kapali areas of Seraikela-Kharsawan district.
