Two arrested with arms, stolen bikes from Chaibasa

Chaibasa, July 25: West Singhbhum police here on Monday arrested two persons with arms from Chaibasa and recovered five stolen bikes in a series of raids conducted on the basis of information furnished by them.

Those arrested were identified as Nitesh Chatomba and John Sanjay Lamay. During frisking, cops recovered a double-barreled country-made gun, two bullets, one bullet case, a shovel, one mobile phone, three SIM cards and a fake pistol from the possession of the accused duo.

According to SP Chaibasa, Ashutosh Shekhar, “Police had got a tip-off about the accused persons going towards Chaibasa from Rajnagar on a bike with the intentin of committing some crime. Soon a team led by the Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Dilip Khalkho was formed to nab the accused. The team arrested the accused persons near Kuju culvert.”

During interrogation, Nitesh and John reportedly confessed their involvement in several loot crimes. Acting on the basis of their information, police recovered five motorcycles stolen by them from various places across the district. There are altogether 19 criminal cases registered against the two accused in and around Chaibasa, said the SP.

The SP said the accused persons were planning to commit major loot crimes in the district. “After coming out of jail, Nitesh made a gang of 18 criminals who committed crimes such as loot, dacoity, murder and theft. So far, 11 members of the gang have been arrested by Odisha and Chaibasa police. Nitesh had shot dead a cattle trader in Badra of Rairangpur this year and looted Rs 15 lakh from him with the help of active CPI (Maoist) member Lalit Sijui,” he said.
