Declare Jharkhand as drought-hit state: BJP Kisan Morcha

Jamshedpur, July 25: BJP Kisan Morcha members staged a demonstration before the office of the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum here on Monday, demanding the status of ‘drought-affected state’ for Jharkhand.

Leading the agitation, district president of Jamshedpur Mahanagar Kisan Morcha, Muchiram Bauri, said a nine-point memorandum was handed over to the Deputy Commissioner of East Singhbhum on behalf of the farmers of the state.

“In view of the current monsoon situation in the state, the government should declare the state as a drought-free state and give the farmers a compensation of Rs 25,000 per acre of their land. The government should also waive off electricity bills of farmers and provide them diesel subsidy,” said Bauri.

State vice president of BJP Kisan Morcha Rajkumar Singh, Devendra Singh, Vinod Singh, Kalyani Sharan and many other party leadres were present during the protest programme.
