Jamshedpur: In an unexpected turn of weather events, twin cyclonic circulations prevailing over northwest Uttar Pradesh and Bangladesh at 1.5 km above mean sea level have led to unseasonal rainfall across various regions of Jharkhand over the past 24 hours.
Simdega emerged at the forefront of the rain chart, experiencing a substantial downpour of 54.4 mm, closely followed by Chakradharpur in West Singhbhum, which recorded 52.2 mm of rain. Other areas in West Singhbhum, namely Manoharpur, Chaibasa, and Goelkera, also received significant rainfall, with amounts ranging from 15 mm to 43.6 mm since last night.
Bokaro and Daltonganj reported 11.4 mm and around 7 mm of rain, respectively, while Jamshedpur witnessed rain in the wee hours, with the local IMD observatory recording 1.2 mm of rainfall today. Reports of rain also poured in from Khunti, Hazaribagh, Ramgarh, Giridih, Jamtara, and several other places across the state.
The sudden weather shift was accompanied by overcast conditions and moderate to heavy fog in Jamshedpur, Ranchi, and various other locations, disrupting surface visibility. The IMD’s Ranchi Met Centre issued an alert of dense to very dense fog at isolated places over the northern and central parts of the state in the next 24 hours.

The cyclonic circulation over northwest Uttar Pradesh and its neighboring areas, ranging between 1.5 km and 3.1 km above mean sea level, has been identified as a key factor contributing to the unseasonal rain. Similarly, the cyclonic circulation over Bangladesh extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level.
Weathermen explained that winds of the order of 140-160 knots at 12.6 km above mean sea level are prevailing over the plains of North India, impacting the weather in Jharkhand. Although the minimum temperature witnessed a rise initially due to cloud cover and foggy weather, weather experts anticipate a subsequent fall by 2 to 4 degrees Celsius after the next 24 hours.

As residents grapple with the unexpected rain and changing temperatures, meteorological authorities advise vigilance and caution due to the prevailing weather conditions in the region.
