Tributes paid to Tagore on his 155th birth anniversary

Jamshedpur, May 8: Rich tributes were paid to ‘Gurudev’ Rabindranath Tagore on his 155th birth anniversary on Sunday.

A ‘prabhat pheri’ was taken out from Rabindra Bhavan in Sakchi, as the students, staff and the managing committee members of the Tagore Society participated in the birth anniversary celebrations of the Nobel laureate.

More than a 1000 people took part in the ‘prabhat pheri.The procession was followed by offering floral tributes to the poet at the Rabindra Bhavan. School students and students of Tagore School of Arts also participated in the morning celebrations. A cultural program was also presented by the students of Tagore Academy. A fine arts and craft exhibition was also inaugurated on the occasion.

The Tagore Society, Jamshedpur, has lined up a three-day cultural extravaganza that started today and will conclude on May 10.

�As members of the Tagore Society, it is our responsibility to propagate the works and vast cultural heritage of the Nobel laureate. This would be a permanent address where visitors can learn more about Tagore,� said Ashis Chowdhury, secretary of Tagore Society.

Apart from the cultural program that was presented in the morning at the Rabindra Bhavan auditorium, the society has also lined up cultural program in the evening and for the next two days. H.S. Paul, president of Tagore Society, was also present today as a part of the celebrations.

The second half of the day saw performances by various art and cultural centers run by the Tagore Society in the city. Students of Telco branch of Tagore Society performed ‘Chhoye Ritu Sahachari,� a dance drama followed by ‘Anando Dhwani’ by students of Baridih and Cable Town branch of Tagore School of Fine Arts and ‘Ritur Dhaali’ by students of Sonari branch.

It may be mentioned that Tagore Society, a city based leading educational and cultural organisation, has also been organising book fair from more than two decades. It periodically organises exhibitions and dance competitions in the city.
