Tribal film fest to kickstart at TCS, Jamshedpur, today

Jamshedpur, Aug 6: Tata Steel Foundation is going to organize a film festival based on tribal stories at Tribal Cultural Society, Sonari, from 7^th August.

Sourav Roy, CEO, Tata Steel Foundation, said the festival would mark the International Day of the World Indigenous Peoples (9^th August) and would continue till 12^th July. As many as 20 films based on tribal life would be screened on this occasion. A question and answer session would also be organized with the directors of the films, said Roy.

“Filmmakers from different parts of the country are coming here. They have made filkms on Adivasi tradition, their social evils and aspirations. Their team would set out on a journey to explore and bring forth the Adivasi heroes on 10^th, 11^th and 12^th August. This journey would begin in East Singhbhum and would reach Ranchi via Khunti and Gumla,” said Roy.

Roy went on to inform that a contract on Adivasi folk tales would be entered with Akhara Communication in order to bring them into animated form. Jharkhand’s 80 Adivasi women who have fought many odds to achieve excellence in their respective fields would also become a part of the festival, he said.

During these three days, visitors, invitees and stakeholders can also experience Tribal Cuisine at the same venue. Being anchored under ‘Aatithya, this will be brought by 21 home cooks from August 7-9 in a fine-dining experience for the people of Jamshedpur. Food order for home delivery shall also be entertained on these two days.

Another important engagement would be Khoj Yatra,a journey of discovery for 24 indigenous writers and filmmakers meeting communities, staying in villages and immersing themselves in traditional stories and perspectives which will then find expression in the works of these creative set of people. This is an attempt to link mainstream capacities with traditional wisdom systems. The last such yatra was organised in 2019, before the pandemic, where 2 filmmakers got an idea leading to Serengsia 1837, a national award winning film in 2022.

There would be also be a Dialogue on Women Leadership at TCC on August 9. This programme will bring together 80 indigenous women who have been exemplars of transformative leadership on social issues and traditional wisdom.
