Jamshedpur: The administration has woken up to implement no-helmet-no-petrol campaign. A team comprising district transport officer (DTO) and motor vehicle inspector (MVI) inspected a few petrol pumps to see for themselves the implementation of the orders of the transport commissioner.

In the process many two-wheeler drivers who are not wearing helmets were fined.

It may be mentioned here that the transport commissioner of Thursday had issued orders to all filling stations that fuel not to be dispensed at pumps to the riders found not wearing helmets.

The no-helmet-no petrol campaign is novel in its idea as there are thousands two wheeler owners in the city who never wear helmets. The increasing road accidents also stressed on the need of strict adherence of traffic safety rules.

Though on Friday no action was taken against the offenders, today the transport department took to the street to implement the regulation.

When the inspecting team reached several petrol pumps at Sakchi and Bistupur are it surprised to note that a section of two-wheeler owners were taking petrol without wearing helmets. The DTO and the MVI charged the offenders with fine on the spot.

The petrol pump owners, however, are facing problems to implement the order. They do not want to offend the vehicle owners on one hand and on the other do not want any trouble at the pumps.

The pump owners have demanded presence of police at the filling stations to thwart any untoward incident.
