Jamshedpur, May 11: The crackdown on unauthorized basement constructions continued as Jamshedpur Notified Area Committee (JNAC) took action on Friday, demolishing shops within the basement of Sakchi’s Birenu Trade Center, located at SNP Area Holding No. 76.

Approximately 80 percent of the shops in the basement were razed to the ground, with plans to dismantle the remaining shops on Saturday. This operation comes following a petition filed in the Jharkhand High Court by Ashok Kumar and others against the notice issued by Jamshedpur Access.

During Thursday’s court hearing, Justice Anand Sen directed the demolition of shops within the basement of Sakchi SNP Area Holding No. 76, with a follow-up report due on Friday. Acting swiftly upon the court’s orders, JNAC initiated the demolition process on Thursday evening, employing JCB machines initially, and resorting to hammers on the second day due to access constraints.

Simultaneously, the campaign extended to Shatabdi Tower in Sakchi, where basement shops met a similar fate. Furthermore, Sakchi SNP Area’s Senco Gold and Diamonds faced intervention from Jamshedpur Axis Deputy Municipal Commissioner Krishna Kumar, who mandated the cessation of commercial activities within their basement, restoring it to a parking area.

Following an inspection, ongoing operations within the basement, including an ice cream warehouse, were halted, with the entire process documented through videography.
