TMH College of Nursing observes lamp lighting ceremony

Jamshedpur: The College of Nursing, Tata Main Hospital (TMH) today observed the 68th Lamp Lighting Ceremony at the College auditorium with Ruchi Narendran as the Chief Guest.

Speaking on the occasion Ms. Narendran said, �Nursing is a very important part of the medical facilities offered anywhere in the country and world. Along with medical care, patients also need the empathy and warmth of nursing. The profession is the backbone of the medical care system. Lots of new developments are taking place in the nursing profession and new entrants need to ensure that they keep themselves updated with adequate skills and specialization� Ms. Narendran also congratulated all the new students on joining College of Nursing.

Today, the fourth batch of students took the Nightingale�s pledge to practice professional nursing with dignity and integrity in the presence of distinguished guests from Tata Steel, College Governing Body, Management Committee members and their (student�s) Parents. The lamp lighting ceremony is an auspicious occasion in every nurse�s life, held in reverence to Florence Nightingale, the lady with the lamp. Nursing is the only profession that follows this lamp lighting ceremony which formally recognises and welcomes the students� entry into the nursing profession.

The Nursing training program at Tata Main Hospital was started in 1939 through its School of Nursing. One of the oldest nursing training institutes in India, the School provided a diploma program in Nursing. From the academic year 2015-16 onwards, the status was upgraded to the College of Nursing which now conducts a four year graduate program in Nursing, namely, Basic B.Sc. Nursing. This program is recognized by the Indian Nursing Council and Jharkhand Nurses� Registration Council. The College is the first and the only Nursing College affiliated to Kolhan University, Chaibasa. The sanctioned annual student intake at the College is 40. At present, the total student strength of the College is 150.
