Jamshedpur, April 16: Thieves pretending to be scrap dealers stole away a cart load of goods from a locked household in Kharia Basti, Mango, on Saturday. However, before they could make away with the booty, local residents caught one of them and handed him over to the police, sources said.

Sources said the accused broke the lock at the entrance door of the house belonging to one Anil Kumar of Kharia Basti after finding no one around. Anil Kumar was away with his family to attend a wedding ceremony in Darbhanga. The accused reportedly broke an almirah and opened a box bedstead to lay hands on valuables. He loaded the entire goods on his cart and made his way out of the colony. He was accompanied by two associates who were taking away a battery from Anil’s bike parked in the house. The cart man successfully went away. But the bike-borne thieves were stopped by a group of local youths on suspicion. One of the thieves escaped with the bike while the one riding pillion got caught. He was handed over to police.

Cops said they were investigating the matter.
