An ungrateful Nation and equally ungrateful people is how Bangladesh and Bangladeshis should be termed. The Person who brought Bangladesh into World’s map is today being erased from the nation’s history and the fight for independence. Bangladesh’s history is full of treachery and deceit. First they killed their Father of Nation along with his entire family, even the small kid of 7 years, Russel, was not spared. Then came his daughter Sheikh Hasina who came back to her motherland from Europe and with her charismatic leadership got some secular minded people and revived her dad’s party Awami League. Not only did she come to power with a thumping majority but served four consecutive terms as the Prime Minister and put Bangladesh on an unprecedented growth path which made the country one of the fastest growing economy in South East Asia. But this success and friendship with India and her protective umbrella over Hindus of Bangladesh were not liked by radical fundamentalists. Parties like BNP and Jamat who are known for their anti India stand were plotting this carnage that we are witnessing today in the name of student movement. It reminds us of what was done to Saddam Hussain and Muammar Gaddafi by their own people, but they were truly dictators and they looted their nation’s wealth and finished their political opponents and there was democratic right for people to protest against their regime. But Hasina was certainly not a dictator and came back to power by winning one election after another and definitely not a tyrant like Saddam or Gaddafi. There is very little doubt now that some big hands are behind this so called student’s movement and this could be Pakistan and probably USA. Pakistani support is understandable but US’s name cropped up after they cancelled Hasina’s US Visa when she was planning to go to US. Even UK did not allow her to visit that country, though she has a property over there.
As of now, Bangladesh is totally in the hands of radical fundamentalists and reports coming from across the border suggest several Hindu temples, homes and businesses have been burnt, looted and Hindus killed. They are about to erase each and every statue, banner, photo of Mujibur Rahman throughout the country. Many Awami league offices have been burnt and their members killed. This brings a question to my mind whether India should have gone into war with Pakistan and liberated the Eastern part to see Bangladesh being born was a good decision at that time. And if all india intervened then Indian flag should have been cemented in their land and let that area become a part of India. All the sacrifices made by Indian soldiers to defeat Pakistan were not even acknowledged by the present generation of Bangladeshis. They have burnt Indira Gandhi Memorial Exhibition Hall as incoming reports state. It must be acknowledged by even the severest critics that without Indian military intervention, Bangladesh could never have come into existence. It was one of those most clinical victories in modern warfare in the shortest possible time. God save this country from ruin. As Indians, our only area of concern is some 1.5 crore Hindus who are living there from centuries and who contributed to Bangladesh growth like any of their countrymen. As it is their population has come down to 8% from about 25% at the time of Independence. India and our states like West Bengal, Tripura & Assam should be prepared for another huge refugee influx.
