Tatanagar trains to get bright yellow boards for better visibility

Jamshedpur, July 12: In a move to enhance passenger convenience, trains originating from Tatanagar station will soon sport bright yellow boards, making it easier to read train names and numbers even in low light. The Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway has initiated the process of replacing old train boards with newly designed, high-visibility models.

Currently, most trains have boards in red, white, or other colours, with the train’s name and number written in black, which often become difficult to read at night or from a distance. Addressing this issue, the mechanical department of Chakradharpur has introduced a new design that features a bright yellow background with bold lettering for improved readability.

The Tatanagar carriage department has already begun installing these new boards. According to officials, the Tatanagar-Howrah Steel Express has already been fitted with the upgraded model and the Tatanagar-Jammutavi Express will be next. Gradually, around two dozen trains operating from Tatanagar will be equipped with the new signage.

A senior railway official from the mechanical department said, “Yellow boards provide much better visibility both during the day and night. This design is already being used for station name boards for loco pilots and now passengers will benefit too.”

In a related development, the process for preparing train reservation charts is also set to change. From July 10, reservation charts for South Eastern Zone trains, including those passing through Tatanagar, will be created as per revised schedules released from Gardenreach.

Under the new system, reservation charts for 72 trains have been rescheduled. For instance, trains like the Howrah Jan Shatabdi Express, Ispat Express and Mumbai Duronto Express will now have their charts prepared by 5 PM on Sundays, while others will be completed by 8 PM.

Additionally, charts for Howrah-Ranchi Vande Bharat and Kurla Express will be prepared four hours before departure and those for the Howrah-Koraput Sambaleshwari Express, Steel Express and Howrah Mail will be ready six hours in advance.

Railway officials believe these changes will streamline operations and improve the overall passenger experience.
