Jamshedpur: The Railway Engineering Department has commenced work to relocate the parking area as part of the redevelopment plan for Tatanagar station. Land leveling activities using JCB machinery have begun at the opposite end of the station road, aiming to facilitate the shifting of the station gate parking before the station’s development work kicks off. Previously, this area was designated for station garbage disposal. The Railway Board has allocated Rs 335 crore for the comprehensive redevelopment of Tatanagar station. The new station layout, as per the architect’s design, necessitates the removal of the existing parking area. Additionally, plans include the construction of a park and fountain in the vicinity of the current parking lot. The Railway authorities have issued notices for the removal of approximately half a dozen huts situated around the multi-storey parking lot. Moreover, preparations are underway to demolish numerous railway quarters and unauthorized structures along Station Road, spanning from Guddi Bazaar to Khasmahal Chowk via Traffic Colony and Sanjay Nagar. The redevelopment project aims to enhance passenger amenities, with proposed facilities such as restaurants, dormitories, retiring rooms, parks, fountains, indoor game areas, spa facilities, and cinema halls. Additionally, flyovers and ring roads will be constructed on the main road, along with pathways above the railway lines and subways below. Multi-storey parking facilities and other conveniences will be provided to passengers. Although the tender process for the station’s redevelopment has not yet commenced, the South East Zone and Chakradharpur Division are actively engaged in preparatory activities ahead of the project’s initiation.
