Tatanagar Station Redevelopment: 350 Buildings to be Demolished

Jamshedpur: As part of the massive Tatanagar Railway Station redevelopment project, South Eastern Railway (SER) is preparing to clear approximately 350 to 400 structures, including houses and shops. This anti-encroachment drive aims to pave the way for modern infrastructure and a major solar energy hub.

🏗️ Four-Phase Demolition Plan

The Railway authorities have divided the clearance operation into four distinct phases.

  • Current Progress: Officials have already cleared encroachments near Kitadih and adjacent areas during the initial stage.
  • Post-Holi Push: The demolition drive will gain momentum after the Holi festival.
  • Relocation: Sources indicate that the Railways is currently considering alternative arrangements for those affected by the project.

☀️ Solar Power Hub: Target 339 MW

In a major push toward green energy, the Railways will install solar plants along the tracks and on vacant land within the Tatanagar rail area.

  • Land Acquisition: The project requires approximately 550 metres of land along the railway lines.
  • Chakradharpur Division Goal: The division aims to generate 339 MW of solar power through a network of small-scale solar plants.
  • Cost Efficiency: This initiative expects to significantly reduce the Railways’ electricity expenditure.

📍 Transforming Tatanagar into a Railway Hub

The Railway administration is working to transform Tatanagar into a comprehensive transit hub. Key updates include:

  • Eviction Notices Issued: Areas including Machhua Pada and Harijan Basti (from Loco Crossing to Salgajhuri Cabin) have already received official notices to vacate.
  • Land Levelling: Once the land is cleared, workers will level the ground to install solar panels and construct new railway yards.
  • Road Clearance: The redevelopment plan also includes clearing the Khasmahal Road area to streamline station access.

The Big Picture: These projects will not only modernise the passenger experience at Tatanagar but also position the Chakradharpur division as a leader in renewable energy within the Indian Railways network.
