Jamshedpur, March 6: In a major relief for passengers returning after the Holi festival, the South Eastern Railway has decided to attach additional coaches to 11 long-distance trains passing through the Chakradharpur, Ranchi, and Kharagpur railway divisions to manage the surge in passenger traffic.
According to railway officials, the special arrangement will remain in effect from March 7 to March 13.
During this period, selected trains will be provided with extra sleeper and general coaches to accommodate the increased number of passengers.
The move is expected to significantly improve seat availability and enhance the chances of waitlisted tickets getting confirmed.
Every year during Holi, a large number of people travel to their hometowns, and the return rush after the festival results in heavy crowding on trains. Stations such as Tatanagar, Chakradharpur, Ranchi, and Kharagpur witness particularly high passenger movement during this period.
Keeping the post-festival rush in mind, the railway administration has taken this step to ease congestion and ensure smoother travel for passengers.
Officials said the decision aims to enhance passenger convenience and reduce travel difficulties during the busy return period after Holi.
Passengers have also been advised to check the status of their trains and coach positions online or at railway stations before commencing their journey.
