Jamshedpur, April 3: Good Friday was observed with deep devotion and solemnity across churches in Jamshedpur, including the St. Joseph Welfare Center Church in Golmuri. Thousands of Christians gathered to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Lord Jesus Christ, reflecting on His message of boundless love and forgiveness for all humanity. The atmosphere throughout the city was spiritual and contemplative as devotees marked the day of Christ’s crucifixion.

The Way of the Cross Brings Jesus’s Final Journey to Life
The day began with the ‘Way of the Cross’ (Via Crucis), a devotional procession tracing the steps of Jesus’s journey to Mount Calvary. At Golmuri Church, devotees followed 14 stations depicting Jesus receiving His death sentence, carrying the heavy cross, and stumbling along the path. Scripture readings were recited at each station, while participants offered prayers and sang sorrowful hymns. The procession, attended by people of all ages, including youth and elders, created a deeply moving scene as some wept while carrying the wooden cross in solidarity with Christ’s suffering.

Bishop Telesphore Bilung Highlights Peace and Forgiveness
After the procession, a main prayer service was held, led by Bishop Telesphore Bilung.

Addressing the congregation, he reflected on the seven final words of Jesus on the cross, underscoring the virtues of self-sacrifice, love, and forgiveness. Bishop Bilung emphasized that, even in immense suffering, Jesus prayed for the forgiveness of His persecutors, teaching humanity the power of compassion and reconciliation. He urged the faithful to follow His example by fostering peace, brotherhood, and service within society. Special prayers were also offered for global peace and the welfare of humanity in today’s challenging times.

The Good Friday observances across Jamshedpur left devotees inspired, reinforcing the enduring lessons of faith, hope, and forgiveness that define the solemn day.
