Jamshedpur, Dec 11: Indian Railways has taken a significant step to meet the growing demand for unreserved travel by adding a minimum of four General Second Class coaches to every popular Mail and Express train across the country. This initiative is aimed at enhancing accessibility and providing affordable travel options, particularly for economically weaker sections. In the current financial year, 385 pairs of trains with 665 rakes have been augmented with 957 additional Second Class coaches (LWS).
The South Eastern Railway has implemented this initiative by augmenting seven popular Mail and Express trains in the past month. These trains now operate with at least four General Second Class coaches, ensuring improved affordability and comfort for unreserved passengers. The trains benefiting from this enhancement include Shalimar-MGR Chennai-Shalimar Mail, Shalimar-MGR Chennai-Shalimar Coromandel Express, Howrah-CSMT Mumbai-Howrah Mail, Howrah-SMVT Bengaluru-Howrah Express, Howrah-Puducherry-Howrah Express, Howrah-CSMT Mumbai-Howrah Express, and Shalimar-Visakhapatnam-
A senior official from Indian Railways remarked that this initiative reflects the organization’s commitment to making rail travel accessible for all. By addressing the needs of unreserved passengers, Indian Railways aims to provide a seamless and affordable travel experience. Further efforts to expand this initiative on other busy routes are also underway.
