Tatanagar Railway Hospital to get four specialist doctors

Jamshedpur, Nov 16: Addressing the longstanding shortage of medical staff, Tatanagar Railway Hospital is set to welcome four specialist doctors. The Chief Medical Director of South East Zone has initiated the appointment process to ensure better healthcare for railway employees and their dependents.

Dr. SK Mishra, Chief Medical Superintendent of Chakradharpur Division, confirmed that interviews for the new positions will be conducted soon. “With the addition of specialist doctors, we plan to upgrade the hospital’s testing facilities,” said Dr. Mishra.

The decision follows a recent inspection by Dr. Anjula Malhotra, Chief Medical Director of South East Zone, who identified several shortcomings in the hospital’s services and issued immediate rectification orders.

Union leaders played a key role in highlighting the issue. They raised concerns over the lack of specialists in orthopaedics, gynaecology, ophthalmology, and paediatrics during their meeting with Dr. Malhotra. Currently, the 50-bed hospital operates with only six doctors, struggling to meet the demands of approximately 200 daily patients in the OPD and emergency.

Despite the availability of advanced equipment, employees often resort to private clinics due to the limited services at the railway hospital. The upcoming appointments aim to address this gap and enhance the hospital’s efficiency.
