Tatanagar: Major mishap averted as Ispat Express coaches coupling breaks

Jamshedpur, January 8:  A major train mishap was averted on Sunday as the Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express developed technical snag near Howrah.

The coupling connecting the second and third coaches of the Howrah Titlagarh Ispat Express got disconnected near Buxra Gate in Howrah at around 9.50 am on Sunday.

Two coaches of Odisha-bound Ispat Express got separated at Santragachi station. The trouble regarding the matter came to the fore when the coupling connecting the two bogies was opened. When this incident happened, the speed of the train was very slow due to which a major accident was averted. All passengers are safe.

The train stops at Tatanagar station and hence people from Jamshedpur were also aboard. On Sunday, the Up Ispat Express left with a delay of about two hours. The train leaves Howrah at 8.43 am. Eyewitnesses said that the coupling connecting the second and third bogies of the train broke near Buxra Gate in Howrah at around 9.55 am. Suddenly there was a loud noise. Passengers of Up Ispat Express told that there was a strong jolt.

The passengers claimed that the speed of the train was low at the time of the accident. A passenger named Subrata Mitra said as soon as the train picks up speed, the coaches leave first. Then everyone got scared. There were two women right in the middle of the bogie. Both the bogies got separated within a few seconds of their movement. Thankfully nothing happened to them. There was no harm to other passengers as well.

The passenger has complained of negligence against the Railways. According to eyewitnesses, after the incident, two cars with the engine of Ispat Express moved forward. The rest are left behind. After that incident, Howrah-Titlagarh Ispat Express was stopped at platform number three of Santragachi station. After this it was sent again. After the incident, an inquiry has been ordered by the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of the Railway Board.

The information about the Ispat Express train was given to the railway officials by sounding the siren. After this, its investigation has been started on the orders of DRM.
