Tata Steel Foundation, Suri Seva Foundation Renew Academic Awards

Four-year partnership to honour meritorious TSTI students with ₹18.5 lakh support

Jamshedpur, July 7: Tata Steel Foundation (TSF) and Suri Seva Foundation (SSF), USA, have renewed their partnership to continue the Suri Seva Foundation Academic Excellence Awards at Tata Steel Technical Institute (TSTI), Burma Mines, for another four years, effective April 2026. The renewed agreement has an approved project outlay of ₹18.5 lakh and aims to continue recognizing and encouraging academic excellence among students pursuing technical education.

Since the inception of the Merit Award initiative in 2020, the partnership has recognized 33 meritorious students for their outstanding academic achievements. Over the years, the programme has emerged as a significant source of motivation for students, encouraging them to strive for excellence in academics, discipline, and overall development.

Suri Seva Foundation, a Michigan, USA-based nonprofit organization, is dedicated to supporting charitable, educational, and scientific initiatives. Through its partnership with Tata Steel Foundation, the Foundation promotes academic excellence and supports deserving students pursuing technical education at Tata Steel Technical Institute.

Under the renewed agreement, Suri seva Foundation will continue funding a structured award programme that annually recognizes seven deserving students from TSTI’s Mechatronics and Electrical & Electronics diploma programmes. The awards include the prestigious Scholar of the Year Award, along with First, Second, and Third Prize Awards across both streams. The initiative is held in memory of Sardar Niranjan Singh and Sardar Amarjit Singh, two long serving and dedicated employees of Tata Steel.

One of the notable recipients of the Suri Seva Foundation Academic Excellence Award is Tanisha Goutam, from the 2022–2025 batch of the Electrical & Electronics Engineering diploma program at Tata Steel Technical Institute. Today, she is a Diploma Engineer Trainee at CG Semi’s semiconductor manufacturing facility in Sanand, Gujarat, where she is contributing to India’s growing semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Earlier this month, she had the opportunity to interact with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the launch of India’s first commercially manufactured Made-in-India semiconductor chips, marking a significant milestone in the country’s semiconductor journey.
