Tata Steel will invest substantially in downstream sector in Jamshedpur: Tata Steel CEO

Jamshedpur: In a significant New Year announcement, Tata Steel’s CEO and Managing Director, TV Narendran, affirmed the company’s commitment to fortifying its presence in the steel sector through strategic investments. Speaking during the New Year cake cutting ceremony at the (CFE), Narendran shared insights into Tata Steel’s future endeavors.

Highlighting the company’s dedication to expansion, Narendran disclosed plans to invest substantially in the downstream sector in Jamshedpur. Emphasizing the importance of safety, he urged citizens to prioritize precautions such as seat belts and helmets, underscoring the company’s unwavering commitment to safety measures.

Reflecting on the challenges faced globally in the past year, Narendran expressed optimism about the positive trajectory for India. Acknowledging the successful management of the COVID-19 situation  and the government’s positive stance, he painted a hopeful picture for the nation.

Providing insights into the steel industry’s dynamics, Narendran revealed that China’s export of 8 million tonnes poses both challenges and opportunities. He predicted a substantial 10 percent rise in steel demand, citing a favorable environment globally.

Looking ahead to 2024, Tata Steel plans to augment production by adding 3 to 8 million tonnes at Kalinganagar and 5 million tonnes at Angul. The downstream sector will witness significant investments. Gamharia has also been earmarked for strategic investment.

As the world navigates through uncertainties, Tata Steel, under Narendran’s leadership, seems poised to contribute substantially to the steel sector’s growth and reinforce its position in the market.
