Tata Steel Tour Championship prize purse spiral to record  Rs 3 crore

Event to unfold at Beldih and Golmuri golf greens from December 15 to 18

Jamshedpur, Aug 12: The season-ending Tata Steel Tour Championship will carry a record prize purse of Rs 3 crore as the event unfolds at the Golmuri and Beldih golf courses between December 15 to 18.

The prize money has been increased 100 per cent this year. The prize purse in the previous edition was Rs 1.5 crore. The championship will feature top-60 on the Order of Merit, according to the second-half 2022 schedule announced by Tata Steel and Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI).

The Tata Steel golf tour has always been a favourite event for the golfers who love the perfectly decked up greens and its speed. The format for the event is as follows: In all the four rounds, half the field will play their first nine holes at Golmuri and second nine at Beldih while the other half will play their first nine at Golmuri and second nine at Beldih. From round two onwards, the leading/front half of the leaderboard (leading groups as per the scores) will play their first nine holes at Golmuri and second nine at Beldih. The prize presentation ceremony will be hosted on December 18.

The strong line-up of 14 events from August to  December is a shot in the arm for Indian professional golf as it boasts of prize money in excess of Rs 11 crore, thereby taking the season’s total prize purse to over Rs 18 crore.

The first-half of the season consisted of 8 events followed by the mid season break. The action will now begin with the Tata Steel PGTI Players Championship 2022 presented by KGISL which will be played at Coimbatore Golf Club from August 17 to 20, marking PGTI’s return to Coimbatore after 8 years.

The list of second-half events will also include the inaugural Kapil Dev-Grant Thornton Golf Invitational worth Rs 1 core in prize money to be played at DLF Golf and Country Club, Gurgaon between September 27 to 30.

PGTI will witness non-stop top golf events from August to December with the launch of three new events coming up as a major boost for professional golf in India.”
