Tata Steel to develop five new grounds in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Feb 18: Tata Steel and Tata Steel UISL have undertaken a new initiative to develop grounds in the city, providing open spaces for recreation and community activities. Plans are in place to develop five new grounds, three of which will be located in Jamshedpur East, and the remaining two will be situated in Jamshedpur West. These grounds will be created with small fencing to ensure accessibility.

The decision to develop these grounds comes in response to concerns about the closure and fencing off of many parks in the city, leading to a shortage of open spaces for children to play and limiting the availability of venues for public events. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, took these concerns seriously and instructed the development of a plan to address the need for open fields.

A recent survey has been conducted to identify suitable locations for the new grounds. The survey revealed the presence of 143 community grounds and playgrounds in the Tata Lease area of the city, covering approximately 180 acres adjacent to community centers. Efforts are being made to free open grounds from encroachments and make them suitable for children’s play.

The survey also assessed the impact of parks on the green cover in the city. Notable parks, including Jubilee Park, Jamshedpur City Park, JMD Park, Kadma Biodiversity Park, Jamshedpur Nature Trail, Dalma View Point, CRM Bara, and others, have contributed to a five percent increase in greenery from 2016 to 2024. Tata Steel spokesperson mentioned ongoing efforts to create a balanced urban environment that enhances the quality of life in the city.
