Tata Steel security personnel vandalize 15 fast food shops in Jamshedpur

Jamshedpur, Jan 20:  Around 15 fast food shops in Sidhgora were overturned and vandalized by Tata Steel security personnel on Monday morning, sparking outrage among the local shopkeepers. The incident occurred in New Baridih, where the shopkeepers have been operating for years, earning a livelihood by setting up fast food stalls on the footpath.

The shopkeepers claim that Tata Steel security personnel regularly harass them, demanding money for allowing them to continue operating their businesses. On Monday, the security personnel allegedly went further by overturning the carts and damaging goods worth nearly Rs 2 lakh. “We have been running these shops for five to six years, supporting our families. But this morning, we found everything destroyed. It is devastating,” said one of the affected shopkeepers.

The vandalized shops included vendors selling snacks, tea and other fast food items. “A gas cylinder was also in one of the shops. Had it exploded, it could have caused a major disaster,” another shopkeeper warned.

Following the incident, shopkeepers staged a protest by blocking the road, demanding justice and compensation for their losses. “We are going to appeal to the MLA and the Deputy Commissioner for justice. This is not acceptable,” said a shopkeeper who lost his entire inventory in the vandalism.

The police intervened and an investigation is underway. “We are looking into the matter. Such incidents should not occur and the responsible individuals will be dealt with accordingly,” assured a Sidhgora police official. Meanwhile, the protesting shopkeepers remain firm in their demand for compensation and the protection of their livelihoods.
