Tata Steel plants over 5000 saplings in Jamshedpur on World Environment Day

Jamshedpur, June 5: Tata Steel celebrated the World Environment Day on June 5 with several plantation drives, and events organised across Jamshedpur.

A plantation drive was organised at CRM Bara Transport Park in the morning followed by a plantation drive at New Bara Flats, Agrico Colony where Mamta Priyadarshi, Divisional Forest Officer, Jamshedpur Forest Division and Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services were present during the occasion.

Several plantation drives were organised inside Tata Steel Jamshedpur works including locations like Sculpture Park, Gate Pass Section, I Blast Furnace, Pellet plant, Lime plant, Tubes Division among others. Several Senior Leaders of Tata Steel were present during the plantation drives. Over 5000 saplings were planted across these locations in a day.

The Environment Department of Tata Steel also organised a closing ceremony at Beldih Club to commemorate all the activities planned for the celebration of World Environment Day. The event also included a Webinar by an expert speaker and Environment Excellence Green Awards Ceremony. The keynote speaker for this event was Dr Tata L Raghu Ram, Chairperson of FAC for Ecology & Sustainability and Associate Professor of Strategic Management at XLRI Jamshedpur.

Dr Tata gave an enriching speech on the impact of plastic pollution on the world and the importance of creating awareness in the society.

The Chief Guest for this event was Rajiv Mangal, Vice President, Safety, Health & Sustainability, Tata Steel while the Guest of Honour was Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel. The event also hosted a prize distribution ceremony for the winners of various activities such painting competition, elocution competition, slogan competition, quiz and poetry competition which were organised in the last week of May at JRD Tata Sports Complex. The best practices and initiatives demonstrated by various units of Tata Steel were also recognised through the Environment Excellence Green Awards.

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5 to spread awareness on issues related to the environment. Every year, the United Nations focusses on new themes to promote actions for protecting the environment. This year, the theme was Solutions to Plastic Pollution under the overarching campaign #BeatPlasticPollution.
