Tata Steel observes DE&I Week

Jamshedpur, March 17: Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DE&I) Week was observed across Tata Steel locations between March 11 to 15 aimed to sensitise employees on the important topic and empower diverse communities. The theme for this year was “Inked in Inclusivity”.

The event witnessed participation of over 1000 employees from across locations. The initiative provided a platform where diverse communities felt heard, valued and respected in an unprecedented manner.

Inaugural day started with context setting by Mukesh Agarwal, Chief HR Business Partner Steel, Tata Steel Jamshedpur and Chief Wellness Officer followed by address by Chaitanya Bhanu, Vice President, Steel Manufacturing and Satish Kumar Singh, General Secretary, Tata Workers’ Union. Day 1 also marked the launch of 5 Day Appreciation Week, whereby employees were able to appreciate colleagues contributing to DE&I at their level and capacity.

Various programmes and activities were organised during the week which included ‘Prerna: Interaction with Leadership’ where in over 500 female colleagues actively engaged with senior leadership including Probal Ghosh, Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel. 50 exemplary women were recognized in the event for their outstanding performance in various segments.  Probal Ghosh, Vice President, Shared Services, Tata Steel also appreciated and recognised the departments with highest diversity in Tata Steel.

It followed conversation with industry experts where in the leaders shared their views on the topic “DE&I: Driving Impact with intent” and deliberated on the true purpose of promoting DE&I in organisations. This session was graced by Uttam Singh, Vice President, Iron Making, Tata Steel and Shahnawaz Alam, Vice President, Tata Workers Union. A session was organised with Laxmi Narayan Tripathi, Activist, Actress, TEDx Speaker and Author. She touched upon topics like rights of trans-genders and challenges faced by the community. This was followed by a mind-blowing and extravagant cultural and talent show called Shades of Diversity, which saw colourful performances from diverse communities.

On the concluding day, departmental level activities were organized to bring the celebration to shop-floors which included interaction with Chiefs, sessions on Wellness of diverse communities and competitions based on the theme.
