Tata Steel Karatekas reign in Indo-Nepal Karate Championship

Jamshedpur, Feb 8: In a remarkable display of skill and determination, four karatekas from the Tata Steel Karate Training Centre secured top honors at the recently concluded Indo-Nepal Karate Championship – 2024 held at the Ambedkar Indoor Stadium, Karim Nagar, Telangana on February 3rd and 4th, 2024.

Tata Steel Karate Training Centre won the overall trophy as cadets made a significant impact at the championship winning seven medals including 5 gold.

Karnisha Das won gold medal (Category: 21-24 yrs) in Girls Kata event. Yashasvi Yadav (Category: 11-12 Yrs) bagged gold in Girls Kumite & Kata event.

Soni Champia gold in Kumite event and bronze in girls kata event (Category: 17-18 Yrs).

Prasidhi Gupta received gold medal in girls kumite event and silver in kata (Category: 15-16 Yrs).

Earlier, the championship, organized by Renshi Surabhi Venugopal of Goju Ryu Karate Do Association of Telangana and supported by the All India Goju Ryu Karate Do Federation, witnessed the participation of around 1000 karatekas from across India, along with 20 talented participants from Nepal. The event was inaugurated by guests including the Deputy Mayor, District Sports Officer, District Olympic Secretary, and State Minister.

Shihan B. R. Mitra, President of the Asian Goju Ryu Karate Do Federation and Secretary of the Nepal Karate Federation, extended support to the championship.

Kyoshi L. Nageshwar Rao, National Chief Coach of Goju Ryu, expressed gratitude towards B. R. Mitra and his team for their backing.

The technical officiating team, comprising Shihan Sandeep Kumar, Sensei Niraj Kumar, Sensei Priyabrat Datta, Sensei Arvind Orano, and Sensei Suraj Gond, played a crucial role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the championship.
