Jamshedpur, Jan 7: Starting February 1, Tata Steel will implement a significant increase in breakfast and food prices across all its canteens due to rising inflation. The management’s proposal suggests raising the rates by two to two and a half times. This proposal was discussed in a meeting held on Monday with representatives from the Tata Workers Union at the Central Canteen Management Committee.
The meeting, chaired by Committee Chairman Nitesh Raj, lasted for 90 minutes and delved into the specifics of the proposed price hike. The union members expressed their concerns about such a steep increase in prices all at once. They argued that while inflation may lead to higher costs, the rise in prices should not exceed 50 percent for all items. The committee members voiced strong opposition to the management’s proposed rates, emphasizing that the increase should be more gradual.
In response, Chairman Nitesh Raj assured the union representatives that he would communicate their concerns to the senior officials of Tata Steel in an effort to find a middle ground. The meeting saw active participation from union members, including Vijay Kumar Singh, Shubham Pandey, Santosh Kumar, Arvind Yadav, Amolak Singh, Sanjay Singh, Raj Kumar, Rakesh Kumar Singh, and Uday Kumar.
The discussion will continue, with a focus on balancing the company’s need to address inflationary pressures while also ensuring that employees are not burdened by excessive price hikes.
