Jamshedpur, July 30: On the occasion of 116th Birth Anniversary of Bharat Ratna JRD Tata, Tata Steel�s West Bokaro Division dedicated a �Water Filtration Plant� to the community near Belgarha, Kedla North, Mandu Block, Ramgarh District, Jharkhand. D. B. Sundara Ramam, Vice President, Raw Materials, Tata Steel, along with Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel, graced the occasion as the Chief Guests for the virtual inauguration in presence of Manish Mishra, General Manager, West Bokaro Division, Tata Steel and Sourav Roy, Chief, Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel.

The water filtration plant is an in-house engineering marvel of the Engineering team of Corporate Social Responsibility, Tata Steel. Built over an area of 1500 square meters, the plant has a raw water storage capacity of 200 Kilo Liters (KL) of water from which 150 KL of clean drinking water will be filtered every day. The raw water filtration undergoes a four-stage model comprising multi-grade filter – activated carbon filter – water softener chamber – ultra-violet lamp, whereby the raw water is transformed into clean drinking water as per Indian Standard (IS 10500:2012).
More than 4000 people will benefit from this facility every day. This facility will not only improve the quality of life for residents of Belgarha but will also impact families dwelling adjacent to this area. The facility will also help in conserving the groundwater levels as raw water will mostly be collected from nearby perennial sources for water filtration process.
Speaking on the occasion, D. B. Sundara Ramam said, �This is a moment of pride as we inaugurate a vital installation such as this for our communities at Belgarha on the occasion of JRD Tata�s Birth Anniversary. It is pertinent to note that the project was completed in a record period of 8 months and especially during a time when we are grappling with an unprecedented crisis. I am hopeful that this facility will touch more lives in the times to come.�
Addressing the virtual gathering, Chanakya Chaudhary said, �Amid COVID-19, being healthy is the ultimate priority and I am happy that Tata Steel at West Bokaro is ensuring that our communities have access to clean drinking water. It is also important that we promote the efficient management of the use of water in the community.�
Mahesh Prasad, President, Rashtriya Coal Mazdoor Sangh, West Bokaro opined that it was very thoughtful of the Division to have come-up with this project.
All senior officials of the Company joined the virtual inauguration including Sahabji Kuchroo, Chief (Operations), West Bokaro Division, PK Srivastava, Chief (Capacity Enhancement Project), Raw Materials Division, Anurag Dixit, Chief (QSE), West Bokaro Division, Mayank Shekhar, Chief (QAB), West Bokaro Division, along with other senior officers from the division.
