Zila Parishad Chief Bari Murmu Launches Free Water Distribution

Jamshedpur: In a major relief for residents battling the sweltering summer heat, East Singhbhum Zila Parishad Chairperson Bari Murmu inaugurated a free drinking water distribution campaign for the Harharguttu and Ghagidih areas on Friday.

The initiative, launched in collaboration with Tata Steel Utilities and Infrastructure Services Limited (formerly JUSCO) and Tarapore & Company, began with a ceremonial inauguration where Murmu broke a coconut to flag off the water tankers. Hundreds of local residents carrying cans, jars, and buckets lined up to receive purified drinking water.

Strategic Collaboration for Drought Relief

Before the launch, panchayat representatives and local citizens honoured Bari Murmu with a traditional turban (pagri) and stole (angavastram) for her proactive role in addressing the water crisis.

The Chairperson revealed that she coordinated the effort by writing to Deputy Commissioner Karn Satyarthi, JUSCO General Manager R.K. Mishra, and the management of Tarapore & Company to secure the tankers.

“We have formed a joint committee of panchayat representatives and local citizens to identify high-need zones and ensure a regular supply of pure water,” Murmu stated. She further announced that the administration would prioritize water delivery for social events, such as weddings and funerals, in the Bagbera region.

Permanent Solutions on the Horizon

Addressing the long-term water woes of the area, Murmu emphasized her commitment to fast-tracking the Bagbera Mega Rural Water Supply Scheme to provide a lasting solution to the seasonal crisis.

Panchayat Samiti member Sunil Gupta, who conducted the program, assured residents that Murmu’s persistent efforts would prevent a water shortage in Harharguttu, Ghagidih, Somay Jhopri, Prem Kunj Chowk, and Bagbera this year.

The event saw participation from a large number of local leaders and social workers, including Panchayat Samiti member Prabha Hansda, Deputy Mukhia Santosh Thakur, and several ward members, all of whom lauded the initiative for providing immediate relief to thousands of thirsty households.
