Highlights Company’s Legacy and Commitment to Nation-Building on Republic Day
76th Republic Day celebrated at Jamshedpur Works
Jamshedpur, Jan 26: The 76th Republic Day was celebrated at Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur plant on Sunday. Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President, Corporate Services, Tata Steel was the chief guest. The event commenced with the hoisting of the national flag, followed by an impressive march past. Tata Steel’s security personnel, dog squad team, and the CISF jawans also participated in the parade. The event was attended by key officials, including Security Chief Arvind Sinha.

In his address, Vice President Chanakya Chaudhary acknowledged that Tata Steel is currently facing a period of significant challenges. He emphasized that while the company has weathered difficult times before, it has always triumphed with the unwavering support of its employees and the residents of Jamshedpur. He reassured that, with the same resolve, Tata Steel will once again overcome the current challenges, although some tough decisions might be required.

Chaudhary further addressed the complexities of the steel industry, noting that while India’s steel demand remains robust, the industry is grappling with evolving challenges. He outlined the need for careful planning and strategic foresight to manage raw material costs, ensure a consistent supply of steel, and meet sustainability targets. One of the biggest challenges the company faces, he said, is the timely implementation of infrastructure projects, which are crucial for Tata Steel’s growth. Efficient logistics and collaboration with stakeholders will play a critical role in overcoming these challenges.
Reflecting on the significance of Republic Day, Chaudhary stated, “Republic Day is not just a commemoration of the day our Constitution came into effect; it is a reminder of the values and principles that define India — justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity. These ideals guide our collective journey toward progress and prosperity.”
Chaudhary underscored Tata Steel’s deep-rooted connection to these values, recalling the vision of founder Jamsetji Tata, who believed that industry must serve the nation. “His dream was not just to produce steel but to build a better India where economic growth and social well-being go hand in hand,” said Chaudhary. “Over a century later, we continue to uphold that vision, driving industrial excellence while remaining committed to the communities we serve.”
He also spoke of Tata Steel’s multifaceted contributions to India’s development, from education and healthcare to sustainability and infrastructure. “Tata Steel’s role in nation-building is not just manufacturing steel but empowering people, creating sustainable solutions, and fostering inclusive growth,” Chaudhary remarked.
Highlighting recent advancements, Chaudhary spoke about the commissioning of the new blast furnace at Tata Steel Kalinganagar and the ongoing Phase II expansion, which will increase the company’s capacity to 8 million tonnes per annum. “This expansion will enhance our ability to support India’s growing infrastructure needs,” he added.
The VP also highlighted Tata Steel’s commitment to digital transformation, with the adoption of cutting-edge technologies, automation, and advanced analytics. Chaudhary proudly mentioned that Tata Steel’s leadership in digitalization has earned recognition as a Manufacturing Lighthouse by the World Economic Forum.
The event was also attended by Tata Steel VP HRM Atrayee Sanyal, Tata Workers Union President Sanjeev Chaudhary Tunnu, General Secretary Satish Singh, former Presidents PN Singh and Raghunath Pandey, among others.
