Jamshedpur, March 22: Tata Steel has created a new waterbody in Sidhgora area of the steel city. Today on the World Water Day, Chanakya Chaudhary, Vice President Corporate Services inaugurated the water body, marking another milestone in furthering the sustainability journey of Tata Steel.
This waterbody is spread over one-acre area with total holding capacity of 10-million litre, which will add to the water conservation effort underway. A two-metre pathway has also been constructed along the waterbody for the citizens in the vicinity. Around 120 saplings have also been planted in the area so as to add to its greenery.
It is worthwhile to note that the waterbody is located beside Bheema road, having a natural slope where it was earlier observed to be a grey water holding catchment. It was therefore decided to convert the area to a rainwater harvesting pond, with feed from grey water outflow from the neighbouring higher areas.
As part of Tata Steel’s sustainability journey, for the last several years, the green cover of the city and addition of water holding capacity through rejuvenation and creation of water bodies has been a focus area.
Similar efforts are ongoing in other areas of the town for the benefit of environment and community at large.
