Jamshedpur: Tata Motors authorities have registered a complaint against protest leader Bunty Singh and several unidentified individuals. The case stems from the “gherao” (blockade) staged at the company’s Gate No. 1 on April 14 and 15.
Tata Motors Security Officer Shashi Kumar Gopinathan Nair lodged the formal complaint, alleging that the group conducted an unauthorized protest without legal permission. Police registered the FIR under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including sections related to unlawful assembly and obstruction.
Bunty Singh has refuted the charges, claiming he provided full intimation to the SDO office and relevant authorities via email. He alleged that police and administrative officials at the site engaged in scuffles with the protesters and misbehaved with women participants.
Singh termed the legal action “adding fuel to the fire” and asserted that the protesters would intensify their movement in response to the FIR. The 30-hour standoff recently ended after the District Labour Commissioner provided written assurances to examine the workers’ demands, but this new legal friction threatens to reignite tensions.
