Jamshedpur, July 26: Tata Motors’ Jamshedpur plant will observe a block closure on Saturday, July 27, followed by a regular holiday on Sunday. The plant will resume operations on Monday. This closure, announced by Plant Head Ravindra Kulkarni, will result in employees receiving only 50% of their salary for these days, with the company covering the remaining 50% of expenses.

The Jamshedpur plant has experienced 11 block closures this year, a strategy aimed at aligning vehicle production with demand and managing production costs. However, these closures significantly impact employees, who have already lost around five and a half days’ worth of salary this year alone. Temporary and basic employees are particularly affected.

The block closures also ripple out to the broader economy, affecting around 1.5 lakh workers and 1,200 companies in the Adityapur Industrial Area, including Tata Cummins and Steel Strips Wheels Limited in Govindpur, which rely on Tata Motors’ production.
