Nagadih mob lynching case: Statements recorded, date set for defence evidence

Jamshedpur, July 26: In the high-profile Nagadih mob lynching case, where four individuals were brutally murdered in May 2017, the court of ADJ-1 Vimlesh Kumar Sahay recorded the statements of 25 accused on Friday. All accused have declared their innocence. The court has scheduled August 7 for the presentation of evidence in their defence.

The case revolves around the murder of two brothers, Vikas and Gautam Verma, their grandmother Ramsakhi Devi, and their friend Gangesh Gupta. On the evening of May 18, 2017, the victims were attacked with bricks and stones by villagers in Nagadih, Bagbeda police station area, following allegations of child theft. The attack occurred in the presence of police, who were unable to control the mob.

Uttam Verma, the deceased’s brother, reported that he and his brother Vikas had been involved in a community sanitation project and were attacked after an argument over identification. Despite police intervention, the mob continued their assault, leading to the deaths of the victims and severe injuries to Ramsakhi Devi, who later died during treatment.

The case names 25 accused, including Rajaram Hansda (Mukhiya) and others. Some accused are still at large.
