Jamshedpur, Jan 29: Jharkhand Governor Santosh Kumar Gangwar, on Thursday addressed the inaugural session of the 6th IEEE International Conference (ICRTCST-26) at RVS College of Engineering and Technology, describing Jamshedpur—widely known as the Steel City—as far more than an industrial centre.
He said the city stands as a powerful national and global symbol of visionary industrial thought, ethical values and deep-rooted social responsibility.
Recalling the city’s origins, the Governor said this remarkable legacy was laid by Tata Group founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, who viewed industry not merely as a vehicle for profit, but as an instrument of nation-building and social welfare.
The Tata Group’s sustained contributions to education, research, technology and human development, he noted, continue to inspire generations across the country and beyond.
Highlighting Jharkhand’s strengths, Gangwar said the state is endowed with rich natural and mineral resources, vibrant cultural diversity and immense youth potential.
In an era defined by rapid technological change, he emphasised that science, technology and innovation have emerged as the cornerstone of sustainable and inclusive development for both states and nations.
Referring to the themes of the two-day international conference, the Governor observed that information technology, artificial intelligence, smart systems, cyber-physical systems and other emerging digital technologies are not only addressing present-day challenges but are also shaping the future.
These advancements, he said, are transforming industries, healthcare, education, smart governance and social development.
Conferences organised by globally respected bodies like IEEE, he added, play a crucial role not only in knowledge exchange but also in developing practical solutions to global challenges.
The Governor underlined that the role of academic institutions has expanded well beyond awarding degrees.
Today, he said, they must evolve into centres of research, innovation, entrepreneurship and social problem-solving.
He urged young researchers and students to apply their technical expertise to real-world issues, stressing that research finds true relevance only when its benefits reach the last person in society.
He further noted that under the leadership of the Prime Minister, India is steadily advancing towards self-reliance and technological empowerment through initiatives such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, Vocal for Local and Viksit Bharat @2047.
International technical conferences of this nature, he said, play a vital role in preparing India’s youth to compete, collaborate and lead on the global stage.
