Jamshedpur: The political atmosphere in Jamshedpur reached a feverish pitch on Wednesday, the final day for filing nominations for the 2026 Jharkhand municipal elections. The Collectorate premises and Swarnarekha Bhavan on Dimna Road witnessed an unprecedented rush as candidates submitted their nomination papers for the posts of Mayor and Ward Councillors of the Mango Municipal Corporation. The massive crowd, enthusiasm, and show of strength during the last hours of nominations gave the civic polls the feel of a ‘mini assembly election’.
‘Saffron’ and ‘Yellow’ Unite Behind Sandhya Singh
On Wednesday afternoon, Sandhya Singh, wife of BJP leader Neeraj Singh and the NDA-supported candidate, filed her nomination papers amid a huge turnout of supporters. The occasion marked a visible show of unity within the NDA, with BJP, JDU, AJSU, and Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) leaders and workers standing firmly together.
After local MLA Saryu Roy officially declared Sandhya Singh as the NDA candidate, senior leaders and workers from all alliance partners were seen marching alongside her. Supporters showered her with garlands, while slogans of “Victory be yours” echoed across the premises, turning the nomination filing into a major political spectacle.
Dr. Vinita Sahay and Raymond Sundi Add New Dimensions
The contest for the Mango Mayor’s post became more intense with the entry of renowned physician Dr. Vinita Sahay, who also filed her nomination on Wednesday. Seen as a representative of the educated and intellectual class, her candidature has made the contest multi-cornered and more competitive.
Raymond Sundi also entered the race with enthusiasm, filing his nomination amid strong support. With their entry, the mayoral contest in Mango is no longer limited to established political families but now includes prominent personalities from social and professional backgrounds.
Festive Atmosphere, Strong Show of Strength
From early morning, the Collectorate premises resembled a festive ground. Candidates arrived in processions accompanied by drums, music, and flower garlands, confidently projecting their prospects. A large number of independent and party-backed candidates also submitted their nominations for ward councillor positions.
Despite elaborate security arrangements, the administration had to make sustained efforts to manage the swelling crowds and maintain order throughout the day.
Real Battle Begins After Nominations
With the nomination process now complete, the electoral battlelines in Mango has been clearly drawn. While Sudha Gupta of the Congress-led alliance will be aiming to defend her political standing, NDA candidate Sandhya Singh has entered the fray with the full organisational backing of her alliance.
All eyes are now on the scrutiny of nomination papers scheduled for February 5, which will determine how many candidates remain in the race and set the stage for an intense civic election battle in Mango.
