Jamshedpur : Tata Group Companies (Tata Steel, Tata Motors, Tinplate and Tata Power) jointly organised the 2nd edition of the Tata Group Archery Tournament across 25 locations of Jharkhand and Odisha.

The Tata Group Archery Tournament concluded today with the finals being played today at the Armoury Ground. Chief Guest for the finals, Mr Sunil Bhaskaran, Dy. VP, Corporate Services, Tata Steel graced the occasion and gave away prizes to the winners.

Mr Bhaskaran congratulated the winners and encouraged all other participants to compete again next time. In his address to gathering, he said �We at Tata Steel would continue supporting the sport in terms of better infrastructure and other necessary facilities to enable creating and grooming world class players.�

He also added that it is from among these budding talents that the Deepikas, Purnimas & Talukdars of the world would emerge.

The tournament aims to encourage young talent in archery and provide them with a platform to showcase their skills and in the process enable the selection of the best-of-the-best to further their talents by ensuring their selection at Tata Archery Academy.

This year, more than 2700 archers (nearly 80 per cent of the lot belong to the scheduled caste and scheduled tribe communities), in the Under-14 and Under 16 group, participated in this tournament and out of which 175 girls and 175 boys as shortlisted archers competed in the finals.

Top 20 archers, adjudged on the basis of performance, will be selected for further coaching by Tata Archery Academy coaches.

The 2nd edition of Tata Group Archery Tournament was organised over a period of one month between Sep 10 to Oct 9 last, covering 35 rural schools across 25 places including Patamda, Potka, Gamharia, Jamshedpur, Seraikela, Ghatshila, Musabani, Chaibasa, Rajnagar, Kuchai, Manoharpur, Noamundi, Jharia, Bamnipal and Kalinganagar.

Last year, this tournament was conducted at 17 places, in which more than 1500 youth participated, and out of which 4 archers (2 boys and 2 girls) were selected for Tata Archery Academy.
