Tata archers steal show in district championship

Jamshedpur, Nov. 8: Archers of Tata Archery Training Centre (TATC) stole the show at the district championship at JRD Tata Sports Complex on Tuesday.

TATC’s Deepak Kisku hit bull’s eye by taking top slots in the boys’ under-17 age group in the 40 m and 30 m distance of Indian Round. Utkal Archery Centre (UAC) Rohit Biruily and Indian Steel & Wire Product’s (ISWP) Sujit Kumar won the silver and bronze, respectively.

Mrinal Choudhary also hit for gold medal in the boys under-14 age section. He defeated ISWP’s Dhrub Gupta (silver) and Shiva Gwala (bronze) in the 30 m shooting. Choudhary also proved his prowess in 20 m by putting it across Kailash Soren (Arjuna Training Centre) and Shiva Gwala (ISWP).

In the girls under-14 age group Madhavi Chouhan bagged gold in the 40 m distance, defeating Raimat Mardi (ISWP) and Sharmila Soren of Hindustan Copper Limited Training Centre, Ghatshila.

ISWP won medals in the girls under-17 age group by claiming the gold in both the 40 m and 30 m distance. Usha Bandopadhyay topped in both the distance.

The top three finishers were awarded Rs 1,500, Rs 1,000 and Rs 500.

Prior to the show, inaugural ceremony took place in presence of Padma Shri Deepika Kumari, fellow international Rimil Biruily, Tata Archery Academy mentors Dronacharya Purnima Mahto and Dharmendra Tiwary.
