Kolhan University convocation on Nov 28, Governor to be chief guest

Jamshedpur: The Kolhan University has decided to organise its convocation for the 2013 and 2014 batch on November 28 finally.

The varsity, which was hopeful to invite Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, has now decided to hold it this month without keeping students waiting anymore.

After long wait, the Kolhan University has decided to organise it on November 28 at its headquarters in Chaibasa. Droupadi Murmu, governor of Jharkhand will be the chief guest on the occasion.

Students of 2013 and 2014 batch will participate in the convocation. Around 14,000 students, who have successfully completed graduation, post graduation and BEd programmes and vocational courses in 2013 and 2014, will receive their degree certificates at the convocation.

As many as 66 students will be given gold medals. However, with the new batch being added the number of students is expected to rise. Rs 25 lakh has been earmarked for the function.

” We were trying to seek dates since February 2015 but without any result. We have visited Delhi several times but somehow it did not materialise.

Since there are so many students waiting to receive their certificates and medals, we have unanimously decided to organise it by this month,” said R.P.P. Singh, vice-chancellor, Kolhan University.

Interestingly when the varsity started seeking dates last year, it was only students of 2013 and 2014 batch which were supposed to participate in the convocation.

Now the university has 2012-2015 and 2013-2016 batch ready. However, Singh said that as of now only two batches–2010-2013 and 2011-2014 will receive their degrees in November.

The varsity will finalise a February date for the other two batches.
